About Us
Established in 1990 under the direction of Joan Kall Stewart, The Sawnee School of Ballet is recognized in the Cumming dance community for its standard of excellence.
The Sawnee School of Ballet offers graded classes for students, pre-school through professional, in ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, hip hop, modern/contemporary, and musical theater. Classes are taught by an outstanding faculty of experienced professional instructors and are presented in a manner appropriate to the age and development of the students.
Whether your child is studying strictly for pleasure, or as a serious student with aspirations of becoming a professional dancer, The Sawnee School of Ballet offers classes that suit the interests of all pupils.
Students from The Sawnee School of Ballet have received scholarships to Ballet Magnificat, Belhaven University, the Joffrey School of Ballet, and Brenau University. They have been accepted in prestigious summer intensive programs such as The Rock, North Carolina School of Arts, and the American Ballet Theatre.
The Sawnee School of Ballet is home base for the Sawnee Ballet Theatre, a non-profit performing company, that annually presents full length productions of the Nutcracker as well as a Spring Concert. Sawnee Ballet Theatre has presented classical ballets such as Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty featuring nationally and internationally renowned artists Anna Finch, Andre Ustinov, Elena Martinson, and Yaroslav Fadeyev.
As Cumming's premier dance company, The Sawnee School Ballet Theatre continues to grow and make significant cultural contributions to the Cumming/Forsyth community.
